She is survived by her husband, Marlin Brittain of Earlham, Iowa; her children, Charles Brittain and wife, Candice of Waverly, Iowa; Marla Cory and her husband, Stephen of Maxwell, Iowa; Donald Brittain and his wife, Lisa of Earlham, Iowa; a sister, Louise Sackett and her husband, Robert of Emmetsburg, Iowa; a brother, Floyd Jamison and his wife, Martha of Humeston, Iowa; and six grandchildren, Christopher, Eric and Kylene Brittain; Jennifer Cory; Skylar and Brandon Brittain. She was preceded in death by her parents. Gretchen was born June 30, 1935 in Adel, Iowa, the daughter of John and Marie (Forret) Jamison. Gretchen graduated from Van Meter High School in 1953. Her marriage to Marlin Brittain took place on July 11, 1954 in Van Meter, Iowa. To this union three children were born, Charles, Marla and Donald. She spent most of her life as a homemaker and farm wife, assisting her husband in the management and operation of the family farm. Gretchen taught piano for 35 years as well as being a part-time receptionist for the Madison County Chamber of Commerce in Winterset. Gretchen was a member of the United Methodist Church of Earlham, Iowa of which she was organist since 1955; the Ingenue Federated Club and UMW (United Methodist Women). She was also a member of the Madison County Fair Association for which she solicited and organized advertising in the Madison County Fair Booklet for fifty years and was an Iowa State Fair Volunteer for 8 years. Gretchen loved her family and like most grandmother’s especially enjoyed attending any and all of her grandchildren's activities. She loved cooking, especially baking Christmas cookies and candies; camping, sewing and most of all playing the piano.
