Harold Clarkson

Military honors will be conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8142 & American Legion Post 184 both of Winterset. Survivors include one son, Bob Clarkson and wife, Linda of Des Moines; three step children, Robert Mount and wife, Marjorie of Ottumwa, Iowa, Stanley Mount and wife, Dottie Jo of Lorimor, and Martha Ann Vandenbusch and husband, Mike of Huntington Beach, California; two half-siblings, Phillip Clarkson of Waterloo and Darlene Ecklov of Redfield; fourteen grandchildren Travis, Valory, Lori, Val, Julie Ann, Robert Mark, Jeffrey, Judy, Robin, Steven, Steven, Jennifer, Michelle, and Carolyn; 35 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and a very special nephew who was like a brother, Jack Clarkson of Casa Grande, Arizona. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Martha; a step-daughter Carolyn Mount; two brothers; two sisters; one step-sister and one half-sister. Harold was born September 28, 1919 in Winterset, Iowa, the son of John and Merle Benham Clarkson. He was a 1937 graduate of Winterset High School and later served three years in the US Navy during WWII. In 1962, he married Martha Mount. She preceded him in death in 1996. During his working career he was a self-employed roofer. During the early 1950’s, he worked construction in Greenland on the Tully Air Force Base. Harold was a member of the V.F.W. Post 8142 of Winterset. McDonald-Chase Cemetery, Madison County, Iowa Visitation: 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. where the family will be present to receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. May 3, 2005 at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare Service: 10:00 a.m., Wednesday May 4, 2005 at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare Memorial: Memorial contributions may be directed to the McDonlad-Chase Cemetery.
