Harold Leslie Rose, son of Otis Maurice Rose and Metha Maree Rench Rose was born August 27, 1926 in Winterset, Iowa, and died March 18, 2011 at Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa, at the age of 84. Harold's family moved to the Washington Township area. He graduated from Perry High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Harold was lovingly known as "Baldy" in the Perry and Bouton areas. He worked for Lauterbach Chevrolet for a time and managed the grain elevator in Bouton. He also drove truck. Friends in this area remember him as a great volunteer with youth and being the public announcer at the Perry ball park. Harold moved to Grimes in the 1960's and continued his love of area youth with several years of driving bus for Dallas Center Grimes School District. Even after retiring, "Uncle Harold" as he was known, volunteered at the school and continued to be a loyal fan of the school teams. Harold enjoyed collecting watches and pens. Although never being married and having his own children, he was a surrogate parent to many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Phyllis Lingelbach and husband Lester and Mary Alice Derry and husband Dudley; brothers, Dean Rose and wife Virginia and Dick Rose. He will be lovingly remembered by his nieces, nephews, sister-in-law Elaine Rose of Ames, other relatives and friends.
