Harriet Virginia Kreager - Adel

Harriet Virginia Kreager (93) passed away on Tuesday, August 11, 2015. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 15. 2015 at McCalley Funeral Home in Adel, with burial following at Oakdale Cemetery. Family will greet friends Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Virginia was born to Maurice and Emma (Warren) Snider on December 16, 1921, in Weldon, IA. She was a graduate of LeRoy Consolidated School in LeRoy, IA. She completed a two year Kindergarten Primary course at Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls. Virginia taught elementary school for five years at Garden Grove and Monroe. On September 15, 1946, she married Ross Kreager at her parent's home in Des Moines. After renting a farm north of Newton for ten years, they purchased a farm near Adel, where they lived for 53 years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and Adel Women's Club. She was a 4-H Club leader. Virginia loved children, family, friends, nature and farm life. She made their farm home a haven for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought her much happiness. She enjoyed many family vacations, army reunions and cruises to Alaska and Hawaii. Left to cherish her memory are her sister, Martha Robinson of Dallas Center; sons, Charles and Kenton (Anne) of Adel; daughter, Gwen Niemeyer (Larry) of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She will also be remembered by many other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; infant sister, Betty, and her husband, Ross.
