Harriett Ann Gooding, age 71, of Marshalltown died on Friday, December 9, 2016 peacefully in her home surrounded by her family. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 507 E. Olive St, Marshalltown, Iowa. According to her wishes cremation and burial of remains will take place at a later date in Des Moines in a family plot. Harriett was born January 5, 1945 in Des Moines, Iowa, to Forest Hoover and Dorothy Enfield Hoover. She grew up in Des Moines and graduated from Des Moines Technical High School. Harriett never missed an opportunity to talk to people about her hope in the future under God's Kingdom. Harriett was a strong, intelligent, resourceful woman who had an extraordinary respect for, and love of, God and nature. She was a true animal lover and spent a lot of time watching birds and wildlife in her yard. When she was a young woman she enjoyed her Pekingese dogs. Harriett raised her family in Marshalltown and later began working at GNC, elderly assistant care, and in recent years she worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a rural delivery carrier. Harriett was preceded in death by her parents, Forest and Dorothy Enfield Hoover, her daughter Nancy Gooding, and her brothers Frederick Hoover and Alan Hoover. She is survived by children, Carol Bristley of Kansas, David Gooding of Marshalltown, Catherine Gooding of Marshalltown, Sandra (Darcy) Rasmussen of Montour, Christine (George) Mettler of Newton, and her 15 grandchildren, Kaitlin, Benjamin, Lacey, Parker, Preston, Megan, Connor, Brennen, Trevor, Troy, Nichole, Madison, Morgan, Paige, Greg, and one great-grandson, Alex.
