He served in both the United States and the European Theater as a Radar Technician, M1 High Speed Tractor Driver, and Military Police Officer. In February of 1946, he was honorably discharged from the Army with the rank of T5 Corporal. Soon after returning home, Harry married RoJean Faye Pottorff on December 14, 1946 in Kansas. The pair lived in Blockton, Iowa as he worked as a Moorman Seed salesman. He and RoJean also lived in Mount Ayr where Harry worked as a farm laborer until he was employed by the Fuller Brush Company and moved to Des Moines. He was soon promoted and moved to Creston in 1948 to work as field manager for the Fuller Brush Company.
