Hazel Salsbury was born in Patterson, Iowa on February 28, 1922, the daughter of James and Nell (Brock) Salsbury. She graduated from Patterson High School and went on to marry Vernon Goodwin on June 28, 1941 in Albany, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Vernon Goodwin; and 4 brothers, Lowell, Bill, Russell and Jessie Salsbury. In addition to being a homemaker and raising their two daughters, Hazel helped Vernon with the operation of their farm. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Patterson and cherished the time she spent with her family and friends. She is survived by her two daughters, Carol Spera and husband, John of Winterset and Debbie Menke and husband, Richard of Long Grove; 3 grandchildren, Martin Menke and wife, Heidi, Jed Spera and wife, Christie and Jay Menke and wife, Christy; a great granddaughter, Mateah Menke; sister, Gladys Courtney and husband, Don of Norwalk; and sister-in-law, Maxine Salsbury of Cedar Falls. Visitation: Montpelier Cemetery, near Patterson, Iowa. Service: Memorials may be directed to the United Methodist Church in Patterson. Memorial: with brunch from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 30, 2008 at at the United Methodist Church, Patterson, Iowa.
