Heidi L. Harkrader - Adel

Heidi Lynn Harkrader, age 37, from Adel, Iowa, was killed in an automobile accident in Adel on Friday night, February 27, 2015. A Memorial Gathering will be Friday, March 6, at McCalley Funeral Home in Adel, where friends may call after 2 p.m. and family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Heidi was born in Des Moines, Iowa on April 29, 1977 to John Harkrader and Janet (Johnson) Harkrader from Adel. She grew up in rural Adel and went to the Adel schools and attended DMACC. She is survived by her parents John and Janet Harkrader, her sister and best friend Abbey Harkrader, Brother in law Rick Sheber, niece and nephew Hunter and Sierra Sheber all from Elkader, Iowa, aunt and uncle Linda and Gary Olson of Tampa Florida, aunt and uncle Robert and Kathy Harkrader, and aunt Dorothy Harkrader all of Adel, and a number of first cousins. She leaves two beautiful children, Tess Broyles and Gatlon Broyles and their father Buc Broyles, of Adel. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Vernon and Edith Harkrader of Adel, and Harry and Ella Johnson of Chatfield, Minnesota, her uncle and aunt Gary and Judy Johnson of Chatfield, Minnesota, and uncle Albert Harkrader from Adel. Thank you to all of you who have shown such love and kindness at this time of tragedy. Please, don't drink and drive! Heidi was a very intelligent and unique person. She was a loving mother and could be a very generous and loving friend. She was a deep thinker. She was fascinated by astrophysics and Stephen Hawking, and was looking forward to seeing his biographical movie "The Theory of Everything". She loved spending special times with her children, friends, and family. Her favorite pastimes were doing arts and crafts, consignment shopping, giggling and laughing with her friends, collecting frogs and hunting for unusual rocks and arrowheads. She enjoyed working at Sherwin Williams and loved the challenge of mixing paint and stain to match a certain color! She was very good at it and always liked to be challenged. Her children will be loved and cared for by a circle of family which also includes their paternal Grandparents Kelly Broyles and Carla Hollands and their children, and great grandmother Zola Williams.
