Helen Dudney

August 19, 1921 — April 1, 2010

Helen was born August 19, 1921 in Warren County, Iowa the daughter of Maurice and Mabel (Haines) McVay. She graduated from New Virginia High School, class of 1939. She married Lyle G. Dudney on August 30, 1941 in Albany, Missouri and to this union three children were born, Kenneth, Linda, and Maurice. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Catharine Scrivner and Dorothy Fichter; an infant brother; and an infant granddaughter Charity Dudney. She was a homemaker and farmwife all of her married life. She liked walking the pasture and enjoyed the cats, chickens and other farm animals. Helen also enjoyed time spent gardening and quilting. She loved to cook for family and friends, especially making pies. She would often plan family picnics on the farm so her grandchildren would have special memories of birthdays and other family occasions. She was an active member of the Deer Creek Church where she played piano and assisted with vacation bible school. Helen is survived by her husband Lyle of Lorimor; her children, Kenneth Dudney (Della) of St. Charles, Linda Stalcup (James) of Lorimor, and Maurice Dudney (Maleea) of Urbandale; two sisters, Arleen McCuddin (Merrill) of New Virginia and Alice Banker of Altoona; nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Visitation: 1:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, where family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. April 5, 2010 at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare, Winterset, Iowa Service: 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at Calvary Baptist Church, St. Charles, Iowa Memorial: Helen died Thursday, April 1, 2010 at West Bridge Care Center in Winterset. She was 88 years old. Memorials in Helen's name may be directed to her family.
