Helen Lorraine Wiedman was born on October 22, 1942, in Winterset, Iowa, to John and Mildred Wiedmann. She graduated from Winterset High School in 1960 and was an active member of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Helen’s earlier days were spent working at Winterset Care Center South, caring for the elderly. Due to health issues, she was placed in a nursing home herself, where she resided for the past 11 and a half years. Helen was known for singing in the hallways, spreading sunshine and cheer to those passing by. One of her favorite songs to sing was “You Are My Sunshine.” She had many loves in her life, including the color blue, M&M candies and country music. Helen enjoyed nothing more than visiting with her family and friends. In her earlier years, she would spend countless hours talking on the telephone or sitting outside, watching passersby and listening to the chirping of the birds. Helen also enjoyed the local eateries, frequenting the bakery for a donut or the café for a tenderloin and fried mushrooms. Helen is survived by her son, Michael (Angie) Wiedman of Van Meter; three grandchildren, Rylan, Raegan and Kennedy Wiedman; siblings, John (Nancy) Wiedman, Beverly Maxwell and Kathy (Randy) Jones; sister-in-law, Shirley Wiedman; brother-in-law, Roy Bear; extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mildred Wiedmann; five sisters, Rose Rinkert, Dorothy Bear, Edith Jacobs, Judy Van Horn and JoAnn Barker and a brother, Glen Wiedman. May the sunshine of comfort shine through this time of gloom and despair. May your memories of Helen be a reminder to be someone’s sunshine on a cloudy day.
