Henry Krohn Jr. passed away peacefully on October 4, 2022 at the Glen Oaks Alzheimer‘s Care Center. Henry‘s family takes comfort in the knowledge that the angels were there to escort Henry’s soul to his Eternal Life.
Henry was born November 3, 1928 to the late Henry and Ethel (Darling) Krohn of Fonda, Iowa. All of Henry’s school years were spent in the Fonda School District. After graduation, Henry served in the U.S. Armed Forces in post-war Germany, driving tanks. He then returned to Iowa to begin tiling ditches with his cousin.
On June 5, 1955, Henry was united in marriage to Janice Mueller in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Henry was a jack of all trades. He farmed in Jackson, Minnesota until 1969. In conjunction with farming, Henry ran the Kentucky Fried Chicken store in Arnold’s Park, Iowa. He then moved to Waukee, Iowa, where he ran two H. Salt Fish n Chip’s stores. In 1982 he began building custom homes with his son Randy. He then had the opportunity to own and operate the Duds N’ Suds Laundromat in Beaverdale until his retirement.
He was an active member of Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, and sang in the Shepherds Staff for 25 years. Henry enjoyed golfing, fishing, Arizona trips, playing pool, playing cards, and attending his children’s sporting events.
Henry was preceded in death by his loving wife Janice Krohn. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Randy (Jean) Krohn of Clive, Iowa, Rhonda Butz of Bella Vista, Arkansas, and Susan (Richard) Meeske, of Wichita, Kansas. He will be missed by his granddaughters Erica and Brianna and grandsons Justin, Jordan, Ryan, Jeremy, Joseph, and Connor, as well as his
great-grandchildren; William and Walter Krohn, Emeri, Essa, and Everest Barkey, William and Klara Fish, Charlie and Henry Fish, Sierra Fish, and Chloe Meeske. In addition, he is survived by his sister Arla Dahlene of Fairhaven, Massachusetts as well many other extended family members.
Although we are all crushed by Henry‘s death, we rejoice that he has received his Crown of Life and that we who share his faith will have a Heavenly reunion with him in God’s own time.
A celebration of Henry‘s Life and Eternal Life will be held at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in West Des Moines on Monday, October 10th, at 1:00 p.m. Those wishing to do so, may donate in Henry‘s memory, to his church’s music department.
