Herman Kneuper, 98, of Van Meter, passed away at Spurgeon Manor in Dallas Center on Monday, October 24, 2022.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 28, 2022 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Van Meter with visitation one hour prior beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in the Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church and/or Kindred Hospice in Panora. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.caldwellparrish.com.
Herman was born on July 6, 1924 to Albert and Hermina (Van Buren) Kneuper at their farm in rural Van Meter. He graduated from Van Meter High School in 1943. On July 28, 1954, he married Fern Marquardt at the Trinity Lutheran Church. To this union, two daughters were born, Alberta Rae and Karen Kay.
Herman enjoyed working on his tractors and did most of his own mechanical work. He also liked to read, especially parts and mechanics books, learning how to fix new problems. Herman also like to track things, like the weather of the day. He kept a diary of all the events on the farm and logged an entry every day for 40 years. He was a quiet and simple man who knew the value of hard work and doing things right.
One of his favorite pastimes was enjoying meals at Perkins Restaurant and the Waveland Cafe', where everyone knew his name.
Herman is survived by his daughter, Karen (Don) Johnson of Van Meter; grandchildren, David Johnson of Van Meter and Katie Johnson of De Soto; step-grandchildren, Donald Jr (Wendy) Johnson of Houston, TX, and Roxanne (Don) Poe of De Soto; step-great grandchildren, Ashley, Jordon, and Kaylee Johnson, Andrea Poe and Amanda Gay; and 3 step great- great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Fern; his parents, and an infant daughter, Alberta Rae.
