Howard passed away on May 6, 2013 at the age of 81 in Greenwood, SC, surrounded by his family. Howard was born April 7, 1932 to Segrae Hansen and Lowell J. Geddes. He was raised in Beaverdale, IA and attended Roosevelt High School. He attended Wentworth Military Academy Junior College and graduated in June of 1954 from Drake University. Upon graduation he was also commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. He met his wife of 54 years, Nora Jean Westerbeck of Adel, IA, and they were married November 27, 1953 in Des Moines at the Methodist Church. They were blessed with 3 children, Linda J. Flores, Howard H. Geddes Jr., and Sheryl A. Sterling. Howard was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandpa. He retired from the Air Force in 1987 after 20 years active duty as a pilot, flight instructor, and flight examiner in many different aircraft. He was also Commander of the 21 Tactical Airlift Squadron in Taiwan. He was a member of the Adel First Christian Church, Q.B.'s (Quiet Birdman, an aviation club), Adel Masonic Lodge #80, Des Moines Scottish Rite, Za-Ga-Zig Shrine, and National Sojourners. One of his greatest enjoyments was putting on a breakfast for the American Legion Post and Boy Scout American Flag raisers on Memorial Day weekend at the Adel Masonic Lodge. Howard is survived by his daughter Linda Flores, son Howard H. Geddes Jr., grand-daughters Lauren and Kristina Geddes, daughter Sheryl Sterling, grandchildren Seraina Sterling and Samuel Sterling and his beloved Golden - Molly. Funeral services for Howard will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 15th at the First Christian Church in Adel, IA. Friends may call after 3:00 p.m. Friday at McCalley Funeral Home in Adel where family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Masonic Rites will take place at 7:00 p.m. Burial with U.S. Air Force Honors will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Newton Union Cemetery, Newton, Iowa. Memorial Contributions can be directed to the Wounded Warriors Project and online condolences can be left on this site.
