Hurshel Ralph Masengill "Short", son of George "Jack" Masengill and Pearl Renfrow Masengill was born May 13, 1924 in Summersville, Missouri and died December 21, 2014 at his home in Dawson, Iowa at the age of 90. Short lived in Dallas Center, Iowa as a child, then moved to Dawson, Iowa for the remainder of his life. On December 23, 1944 Hurshel and Patricia Joan Wagner were united in marriage. The couple was blessed with three daughters Ronda, Maris and Dee. Pat and Short were married nearly 62 years. He worked as a road grader for Dallas County and eventually became a foreman until retiring in 1986. Short enjoyed racing, working on cars, hill climbing, tinkering and sitting out on his porch. He loved spending time with family and visiting with his two best friends Richard and Larry. Short was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Pearl Masengill, wife Pat Masengill, grandson Brad Gottschalk, sister Mabel Nace, and brothers Bud Masengill and Darrell Masengill. Short is survived by his daughters Ronda Clymer (Lon) of Sabastien, FL, Maris Masengill (Michelle) of Dawson, IA and Dee Schmitz of Carroll, IA; six grandchildren: Whitney Cue (Justin) of Coon Rapids, IA, Nickie Gasteneau (Gus) of P-Ridge, AK, Craig Clymer (Kim) of NC, Curt Clymer (Susan) of Virginia Beach, David Case of Des Moines, IA and Scott Case of Des Moines, IA; nine great-grandchildren; sister Violet Sheets of Perry, IA; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends. A Celebration of Life service will be held in May at the Dallas Township Cemetery in Dawson.
