Ila Rae Wieck

Ila Rae Wieck, 82, passed away on November 28, 2017 in Des Moines, IA. A visitation will be held on Monday, December 4, 2017 from 4:00-7:00 PM at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home & Crematory in Urbandale, IA. Interment will be at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel. Ila Rae was born June 2, 1935 to Gene and Evelyn (Sontag) Emerald in Chicago, IL. She married Wayne R. Wieck and they raised 3 children, Jeffrey (Ann), Gregg (Jodi) and Carla. Upon retirement they moved to Clear Lake where they resided until Wayne’s death in 2003 at which time Ila Rae returned to Des Moines. Ila Rae was a woman of many talents and interests. Before being a mother and grandmother, she was an actress who performed locally and even had talent prospects in the movie industry. In her retirement, she was a hospice volunteer, a spiritual minister and a woman of faith. She loved games of all kind and was fiercely competitive. Friends and family know she was a force of nature. You always knew when Ila Rae was in the room. She stood out in the crowd and is probably why her grandchildren always referred to her with great affection as RED. She is survived by her 3 children and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Please join us in celebrating RED’s life. We can hug, laugh, cry and share some stories about this special woman.
