Iona Marie Thornburg

Iona Thornburg, age 100 of Perry, passed away on Monday, October 17, 2022, at the Eden Acres Campus of Perry Lutheran Homes in Perry. A private family graveside service will be held in the Peoples Cemetery. There will be a celebration of her life held at a later date. Memorials will be given to her family and may be left at the Carris Family Funeral Home & Cremation Care. Iona Marie Thornburg was born on August 9, 1922, in Perry, IA to Louis and Ella (Friedrichsen) Kuhlman. She attended country school and then graduated from the Bouton Community School. She was united in marriage to Marion "Bud" Louis Thornburg at St. Paul Lutheran Church on June 2, 1946. She farmed with Bud on their Century Farm. She was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church and was very active in the Bouton Community including working at the Bouton Breakfasts and serving her church. She loved playing cards, puzzles, and dancing at Lake Robbins Ballroom. Iona always had time for her "pride and Joy", her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Holidays and BBQs at the farm, yearly vacations to Clear Lake made special memories for everyone. In death she rejoins her husband Bud, and her parents, Louis and Ella Kuhlman. Left to cherish Ionas memory are her sons, Jerald (Kathy) Thornburg, Perry, IA and David (Rhonda) Thornburg, Bouton, IA, grandchildren, Janelle (Jeremy) Whelchel, Perry, IA, Jill (A.J.) Ketelesen, Perry, IA, Ryan Thornburg, Bouton, IA and Brandi (Kevin) Robinson, Woodward, IA, great grandchildren, Katelyn Whelchel, Karley Jensen, Kamryn Whelchel, Karagyn Whelchel, Kalley Whelchel, Jayse Whelchel, Kaylee Brock, Khloe Brock, Cameron Ketelsen, Hope Thornburg, Brooke O'Dell, Brandon Jacobs, Bryant Jacobs, Kylie Robinson, Kolton Robinson and Caysen Robinson.
