Ivadell Wiertzema

Ivadell Wilma Wiertzema, daughter of Harm Garrels and Effie Pannkuck Garrels, was born August 8, 1926 in Little Rock, Iowa, and died July 29, 2012 at her home in Jefferson, Iowa. Ivadell was 85 years old, soon to celebrate her 86th birthday. Ivadell kept house for her father following her education in the Little Rock Schools. On February 6, 1945, she married Ollie Wiertzema and they lived in Sibley. The couple was blessed with two sons, Paul and Mark. While Ollie served with the U.S. Army, Ivadell lived in Sibley. In 1967 the family moved to Jefferson. Ivadell helped Ollie in his construction business, worked for Jefferson Telephone Company for several years and at Pamida for a time. Ivadell loved her family very much and spoiled her grandchildren. She enjoyed sewing and made many of her blouses. Ivadell also made patchwork quilts, gardened and canned her produce. She raised beautiful houseplants, worked word search puzzles, and had golfed for several years. She was a member of the Jefferson B.P.O.E. Does. Ivadell was preceded in death by her parents, her son Paul and husband Ollie March 25th of this year. She was also preceded by her sister Lorraine Arends and brothers Marvin and Loren "Bud" Garrels. Ivadell will be deeply missed by her son Mark Wiertzema (Sandy) of Milton, Ontario, Canada; daughter-in-law Mary Ann Wiertzema of Waverly, IA; grandchildren Nathan Wiertzema (Amber) of Ames, IA; Nicole Wiertzema of Waverly, IA; Jonathan Wiertzema of Phoenix, NY; great-grandchildren Madison, Paige, Kailey, Ethan, and Lillian Wiertzema; sisters Viola Klosterbuer and Leona Klosterbuer both of Luverne, MN; sister-in-law Viola Nash of Moville,IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. www.hastingsfh.com
