Jack Gary Prunty, age 88, a long-time resident of Van Meter, IA, passed away on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, at Arbor Springs Care Facility in West Des Moines, IA. Jack was born on July 3, 1933, in Richland, IA, to Robert Charles and Elizabeth Prunty. Jack grew up in the Midwest, primarily in Iowa and Nebraska, and was one of ten children. He married Donna Mae Graham in 1950, before joining the United States Air Force. He honorably served in the Air Force for four years and was a National Defense Service Medal recipient. After being discharged from the Air Force, Jack began working various farming and ranching jobs, before starting a career at John Deere Ankeny Works as a welder for 30 years. In addition to his career at John Deere, Jack worked as a farrier for over 50 years to support his growing family and fuel his passion as a horseman. Jack and Donna Prunty were married for 41 years and had seven children together. He was preceded in death by Donna, and their infant son, Craig Allen Prunty. Jack married his second wife, Judy K. Ripple, in 1994, who also preceded him in death. Additionally, seven of his siblings have preceded him in death. Jack was a member of the American & Iowa Quarter Horse Association, the American Legion, and various Iowa saddle clubs. Jack was a “Jack of All Trades and Master of All”. He had a variety of hobbies and interests, including boating, hunting, country music, dancing, and anything horse-related. But most of all, he enjoyed his family and loved watching his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren grow up and live life! Jack is survived by his children, R.C. (Susan) Prunty of Ankeny, IA; Brian (Kathaleen) Prunty of Rifle, CO; Scott (Sharon) of Adel, IA; Brent Prunty (David Raymond) of Earlham, IA; Jacalyn (Rod) Huebert of Des Moines, IA; and Kimberly (Prunty) Dunbar of Van Meter, IA. Twelve grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren also survive Jack. Additionally, he is survived by two sisters, Shirley Stell of Phoenix, AZ and Ruth Rausch of Folsom, CA. Furthermore, Jack is survived by many, many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 10, 2022 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home – McCalley Chapel in Adel, IA, with burial following at Iowa Veterans Cemetery near Van Meter. Family will greet friends Monday from 9:30-11:00 AM at the funeral home prior to the service.
