Jackie Lynn Blythe

Our beloved Jackie Blythe, 62, of Pleasant Hill, Iowa entered the heavenly realm on July 16, 2015, where he will continue to share his talent through music and song. Jackie was born in Phoenix, Arizona on July 19, 1952 and was the oldest of four children. His family moved to Iowa when Jackie was four years old and that is where he developed his passion for music and magic. Jackie, his parents and siblings; Kathy, Kenneth and Johnny, shared their gospel music in many Baptist church in central Iowa and Arkansas. At the age of 17 Jackie joined the U.S. Navy and was assigned to the U.S.S. Hancock during the Vietnam War. He worked in a variety of construction jobs before joining the U.S. Post Office in 1978 where he worked as a mail handler for 37 years. Jackie was the father of three beautiful children, Shawn (Mary) Blythe, Melanie (John) Grimm and Adriene (Aaron Hoppus) Shepherd. In 1980, Jackie married Robbie Thompson and expanded his family to include Brenda (Brent) Robinson, Sandra (John) Kamp, Bryan (Lisa) Thompson and Michael (Kelly) Thompson. Over the years Jackie added 22 grandchildren and one great grandson. Jackie and John Bob Robert Short started the Pacific Quest band in 1982. They mentored Bob's three sons and eventually formed the Generation Gap band. Although Jackie loved to play and sing, his enthusiasm and passion was for sharing the love of music with friends, relatives and grandchildren. His musical legacy will continue for generations to come. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at Caldwell Parrish located at 8201 Hickman Road in Urbandale, Iowa from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A military burial service will be held Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery located at 34024 Veterans Memorial Drive in Adel, Iowa at 11:00 AM.
