James Edgar Coffin

James Edgar Coffin, son of Edgar Coffin and Fern Houghman Coffin, was born July 23, 1942 in Perry, Iowa, and died October 24, 2007 at his home in Grand Junction, Iowa, at the age of 65 years, 3 months and 1 day. Jim, as he was lovingly known, received his education in Perry. He graduated from Perry High School in 1961. Jim served in the U.S. Marines from October of 1961 to February 15, 1966. On May 19, 1967, he married Karen Lynn Montgomery. They lived in Perry until 2002 when they moved to Grand Junction. Jim worked for Progressive Foundry, for Jack Frantum, Keith Devilbiss and Neel Lumber. He then owned his own business and later worked for Osmundsons where he retired July of 2005. His biggest joy was his family and grandchildren. Jim enjoyed going to Tama and traveling with friends. He loved collecting cookie jars, Mickey Mouse memorabilia and older toys. Jim was known for his baking, especially sugar cookies which he shared for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; brother Ed Welder; father-in-law Vernon Mack; brother-in-law Parke Montgomery. He is survived by his wife Karen; son Roger James and wife Jessica of Grand Junction; daughters, Linda Sue Stufflebeam of Davis City and Casey Lee Summerfield of Des Moines; 9 grandchildren: Shasta and John Berry; Jacee, Kelsey, Brooke, Shania, Kamie, and Steven Coffin; and Damein Summerfield. Jim is also survived by his mother-in-law Joyce Mack of Grand Junction; brothers, Donald Welder (Shirley) of Yale; Billy Coffin (Iris Ann) of Perry; sisters Hazel Graham (James) of Ames; and Rose James (Richard) of Minburn; sister-in-law Jolene Welder of Herndon; aunt Dorothy Devilbiss of Rippey; uncles Jim Houghman (Anna Mae) of Herndon; and Dale Roberts (Karen) of Jefferson; Karen's sister and brothers, Vickie Choate (Tom) of Grand Junction; Robert Montgomery of Grand Junction; Roy and (Ginger) Roberts of Missouri of and Gilbert "Jimmy" Montgomery of Grand Junction; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
