James Edward 'Jim' Rhoten

James "Jim" Edward Rhoten passed away peacefully at Adel Acres on November 11, 2016. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 14, 2016 at McCalley Funeral Home in Adel. Friends may call after Noon Sunday at the funeral home where family will greet friends from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Private family burial will be at Church of the Brethren Cemetery at Panther Creek. Jim was born on August 10, 1935 in Adel to Mary and Ora Rhoten, graduating from Adel High School in 1953. Jim farmed northwest of Adel until 1990, when he moved to southern Missouri, where he worked a variety of jobs before moving back to Adel in 2010. Jim enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sports events, eating lunch at Patrick's and having Sunday dinner at his house every week. He is preceded in death by his wife Terry, his first wife Karen Baker Rhoten, both parents, and brother, John. He leaves behind his sister Janice (Daryl) DePue of Adel, his children Sam Rhoten of Dexter, Linda (Bob) Smithson of Redfield, Connie (Cory) Sloss of Adel, and Jack Rhoten of West Des Moines, ten grandchildren, one great granddaughter and one on the way, and many dear friends, nieces and nephews.
