James Elton Rohr was born April 5, 1920 in Greenfield, Iowa. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in Germany and France during World War II. James married Anna Christina Brolin in 1940. They farmed near Cumming until 1987, when Anna died and James retired. James was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Cole and Marcella Julson. James died Friday, February 1, 2008, at the Winterset Care Center North. He was 87. He is survived by his second wife, Mary Hammer Rohr of Winterset; two daughters, Penelope A. Fedro (John) of Cedar Rapids and Gail A. Pace (Mike) of Waukee; 3 grandchildren, Laura A. Fedro, Kristen M. Kolman, both of Bozeman, MT and Nicholas J. Pace of Cedar Falls; 2 great grandsons, Adison J. Pace and Gus Chisholm; one great granddaughter, Sienna M. Pace; a sister, Lucille Schmidt of Altoona; 2 stepsons, Keith Hammer (Rita) of Bettendorf and Mark Hammer (Elaine) of Baxter; 3 step-grandsons and 7 step-great grandchildren. Visitation: Private burial of the cremated remains will be held in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Orilla, Iowa. Service: Rather than flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be directed to Middle River Hospice in Winterset. Memorial: 1:00 to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, with family present to receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. February 3, 2008 at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset, Iowa.
