Memorials may be donated to the Winterset Parks and Recreation Department or to the Madison County Extension and Outreach with a designation to the “Madison Co. 4-H – Jim Hochstetler Memorial”. James M. “Jim” Hochstetler was born to Lelah (Russell) and Paul Hochstetler on September 9, 1937 in Dexter, Iowa. He grew up on a farm east of Pitzer. After graduating in 1955 from Winterset High School, he enlisted in the US Army. On June 20, 1965, he married Sharon “Kaye” Callison. He then attended Iowa State University and graduated with a degree in engineering in 1968. Following graduation, he went to work in West Union and later in Manchester. He then returned to Winterset and opened an engineering firm with his business partner, Tom Vance. His love of farming ran deep, so he moved his family to the farm to start his lifelong hobby. He grew crops, raised cattle and sheep, along with a smattering of horses, goats and pigs to satisfy the whims of his children. Chickens were forbidden, as his love of cleaning hen houses did not run deep. Despite his busy job and farm, he enjoyed spending time with children, grandchildren, and extended family. After a prolonged illness, his beloved wife, Kaye, passed away in 2010. He was blessed to find love again and married Blossom Kay in 2012. They both enjoyed traveling and visiting family and friends. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Lelah Hochstetler; and wife, Sharon “Kaye” Hochstetler. He is survived by his wife, Blossom of Winterset; son, Russell (Janis) Hochstetler of Winterset; daughter, Susan (Ahsan) Aman of Iowa City; brother, Charles (Karen) Hochstetler of Winterset; sister, Betty (Jim Gogerty) Hochstetler of Des Moines; grandchildren, Tristan and Deven Aman both of Iowa City, and Moses Hochstetler of Winterset; stepsons, Bradley Wyckoff of Clive, and Jeffrey Wyckoff of Japan; step-grandson, Colton Wyckoff of Scottsdale, AZ; and step-granddaughters, Genevieve Wyckoff of Phoenix, AZ, and Miku Tiana Wyckoff of Japan.
