James Robert Hughes passed away peacefully January 16, 2021. Jim was born in Blue Island, Illinois on January 15, 1934 to Arthur and Anna Hughes. Jim served in the Air Force and after serving came to Iowa to go to Drake University where he graduated. In 1971 Jim and Rose bought HorseShoe Lanes bowling alley and moved to Adel. After selling the bowling alley he worked for Ford Motor Company as a district manager from which he retired. Jim and Rose spent countless hours volunteering at the Dallas County Fair Grounds which he served as a fair board member. Over the years Jim also enjoyed snowmobiling, downhill skiing, men’s softball league, umpiring baseball and softball games, and ADM Track booster club. Jim’s favorite pass time was taking care of his yard and house. Passerbys would always see him sitting at his picnic table and waving as everyone went by. Jim was an outgoing person that knew no strangers welcoming anyone and everyone to his place to have a beer. Up to the end he was happy and waved to everyone that entered the room as if it were his best friend. He will be missed by many family and friends.
