A proud graduate of Stuart High School in 1962, Jim wasted no time in contributing to his community. He embarked on his professional journey by joining Dahl's Grocery Store, showcasing his strong work ethic from an early age. His passion for aviation led him to Airline School, a decision that would shape his future in ways he could only dream of.

In 1965, Jim's aviation career took flight when he joined Ozark Airlines. Throughout his illustrious 37-year tenure, he witnessed the transformation of the airline industry as Ozark Airlines evolved into TWA, and eventually merged with American Airlines. Jim's dedication and unwavering commitment to his work earned him the respect of colleagues and passengers alike. He retired from the airlines on January 5, 2002. Jim later transitioned to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), contributing his skills to ensuring the safety of travelers. However, it was in the serenity of Lake Ponderosa that he found the true essence of retirement alongside his beloved wife. This idyllic setting became the backdrop for the best years of his life.

A proud 4th degree Knights of Columbus member, Jim exemplified the values of charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism in both his personal and professional life. He also served the community as an EMT for 15 years, leaving an indelible mark on the lives he touched.

A passionate John Deere enthusiast, Jim found joy in tending to his land and meticulously mowing on his tractors. His love for the outdoors and the simple pleasures of life illuminated the path to his happiness. Jim’s vibrant spirit extended to his role as a cherished grandfather. He found immense joy in giving his grandchildren unforgettable rides on the waverunner.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 56 years, Sharon; son David (Chilan) Martes and their children, Hailey (David), Alleyna, Madeline, Josh, Anna and Livi; daughter Ann Miller and her children, Nick, Matt and Emma; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Phyllis and Tudy; nephew, Jim Henry; and brother-in-law, LeRoy Alexander.
