James Randolph Rice

Hastings Funeral Home in Jefferson is in charge of arrangements for James Rice, 68, of Scranton. James died February 6, 2022 at Mercy One Medical Center in Des Moines. Services are pending at this time. James Randolph Rice, son of Donald Rice and Ruby Jackson-Haynes Rice, was born April 29, 1953 in Iowa. After graduating from high school James went on to DMACC where he received his Bachelor's degree in Science. He enlisted in the United States Army in July of 1971 and was honorably discharged in 1977. James had own his body shop for some time, then worked at DeSoto Auto Salvage, American Athletic Woodroom, and Percival Scientific. He enjoyed tinkering and rebuilding classic automobiles. James died February 6, 2022 at Mercy One Medical Center in Des Moines. He was preceded in death by his parents, and three sisters, Sandy Charman, Vicky Rice, and Connie Garcia. James is survived by his son Ryan Rice and daughter-in-law Brittany of Boone; daughters Lisa Wolf of Iowa City, Rachel Rice, and Michelle Rice of California; grandson Christian Rice, and numerous more grandchildren; brother Rick Rice of North Carolina; other relatives, and friends.
