September 12, 1932 — September 19, 2023

James “Jim” Murray, 91, passed away on September 19th, 2023. He was born on September 12th, 1932 to Leo and Catherine “Wrenn” Murray in Ottumwa, Iowa. Jim married Margaret Nillies and cherished their marriage of 68 years.

Jim’s journey through life was marked by athleticism, dedication and hard work. As a young man, he was a shining star on the basketball court, leaving a trail of unforgettable memories at Ottumwa Central High School. After graduating, Jim embarked on a remarkable career spanning 35 years with Armstrong Tire. Upon retiring, he dedicated himself to serving the Lord.

Jim’s life was a testament to the power of unwavering faith. His deep and abiding belief in God was a guiding light throughout his journey. His daily ritual of prayer, which included the recitation of the rosary, was a profound expression of his spiritual devotion. For two decades, Jim was a steadfast presence in his church community volunteering his time. He cherished the opportunity to give back and formed deep, lasting friendships with his fellow parishioners. Jim also served as President of Saint Vincent de Paul for his parish for several years.

The love Jim had for his family knew no bounds. He wanted all of his sons and their spouses, grandchildren, nieces and nephews to know that he loved them very much. Jim also cherished his friendships with his neighbors who always looked after him and took care of him whenever he needed it.

Those left to cherish his memory are his sons Gary (Kim) Murray, Greg (Denise) Murray, Brian (Judy) Murray and David (John) McFadden(Murray); 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife Margaret, parents and 5 siblings.
