August 5, 1976 — November 20, 2023

Jamie William Holtry, 47 of Winterset passed away peacefully at home after a long and courageous battle with cancer on Monday, November 20, 2023.

Burial will take place at a later date in the Lorimor Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family for a future designation. Jamie was born on August 5, 1976 to Bruce Sr. and Sharon (Dillinger) Holtry in Creston, Iowa. Following high school, Jamie worked at McAninch Corporation for 13 years prior to working for his brother Bruce Jr. Jamie eventually set off and became his own boss, running his own excavating company.

After many years on June 3rd, 2023, surrounded by friends and family, Jamie married the love of his life Mandy (Wagner) in a beautiful ceremony in St. Charles, Iowa.

Jamie was an extremely hard worker with an old school worth ethic and enjoyed many different hobbies in life. He was a big hunter, especially coyote hunting and was an avid fisherman. He could spend hours fishing from the boat or on a shore, just as long as his line was in the water, he was having fun.  During the summer months, he loved to get out on the open waters and go boating and tubing with their lake family.  When it turned cold, he thoroughly enjoyed  gathering around the card table with his closest friends to take their money.

Jamie also loved to cook. He had a special knack for being able to throw random things together and make the most delicious meals. He enjoyed farming and running cattle with his family, and spent many hours cutting and putting up hay. When it came time to relax, he enjoyed supporting Iowa state football or lounging back and watching an action packed tv show.

Jamie was always around if you needed a helping hand. He was a tremendous friend and always the life of the party. One of the most amazing things about him was his innate ability to tell a story.  If he was there, you knew you were in for a good time and laughing was guaranteed.

Above all else, Jamie loved and was extremely proud of his family. Over the last several years, Jamie and Mandy really found a new  way of traveling, exploring new places and making new memories and experiences.

Jamie is survived by his wife, Mandy; parents, Bruce Sr. and Sharon Holtry; children, Jesse (Rylee) Holtry, Kaitlyn Weir, Quentin Holtry, Garrett (Gracen) Tyler, Montana (Tyler) Kelley, and Gracie Holtry; brother, Bruce Jr. (Stephenie) Holtry; sister, Amy (Darrell) Fox; and one grandson, Walker Holtry. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Richard and Lois Dillinger; and paternal grandparents, Leo and Mary Holtry.
