Elizabeth "Jane" Marean, 84, of Peru, passed away Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at Azria Health in Winterset. She had Alzheimer’s disease for over 13 years.
Jane was born in Guthrie County, Iowa on August 15, 1939, the daughter of Jesse and Alta (Burns) Crawley. She went to a one room schoolhouse and graduated from Bayard High School. Later in life she received a degree from Vatterott College. She was married to Max Marean for 68 years and to this union 3 children were born, Michael, Michelle, and Mark.
She worked for many years at Fareway in Winterset, a factory, and Farm Bureau in West Des Moines before she retired. Jane made several wedding dresses and wedding cakes. She loved her house plants. The highlights of her life were her grandchildren.
Jane is survived by her children, Michael Marean of Texas, Michele (Lee Harper) Marean of Peru and Mark (Stacy) Marean of Peru; 5 grandchildren, Jesse, Matt, and Nick Songer and Grant and Lance Marean. She is also survived by a sister, Shirley Van Deventer of Adel; and a host of great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Max; a grandchild, Casey Marean; brothers, Harley and Jimmy Crawley; and sisters, Colleen Meier and Evelyn Crawley.
A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home, Winterset Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, January 3, at the funeral home with burial to follow in the Peru Cemetery. Memorials in her name may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association and/or the American Diabetes Association.
