Janet Lea Richardson

Janet Lea Richardson was born on December 26, 1941 in Hartford, Connecticut to John A. Bergere and Barbara A. (Manchester) Bergere. She graduated from Cromwell High School in 1959. Janet worked as a secretary for Travelers Insurance Company in Hartford where she met Robert "Bob" Richardson, a father of 5. The two were united in marriage in December of 1966 in Cromwell. They came to Iowa to live on his family farm out east of Woodward. Janet taught herself to knit, she was a skilled seamstress and an excellent cook. She and Bob enjoyed square dancing and seasonal camping trips. The couple owned their own Caf in Woodward. In 1989 Janet and Bob relocated to Perry to a great neighborhood on West Warford. She was Bob's biggest fan when he was racing stock cars in Boone, though she was equally nervous about it, too. Janet worked as a receptionist at the Woodward Resource Center for 30 years. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary #99 in Minburn. Janet had a lifelong love for dogs. She enjoyed playing board games, especially scrabble. Janet loved flowers and houseplants of every kind. She passed away on February 17, 2024 at her home in Perry. Janet was preceded in death by her mother Barbara, father John, stepmother Ann, husband Robert "Bob" Richardson, and brother Bradford Bergere. She will be dearly missed by all the friends she made in her neighborhood, her dog Zoe Mae, nephews Douglas Berg&egravere and John Bergere, sister-in-law Jean Gibson, dear friends Trudy Lambert, Lori Lambert, and Edith Frantum; several cousins, other relatives, and many more friends. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 22, 2024 at Hastings Funeral Home in Perry. Burial will take place in Violet Hill Cemetery.
