A service for Janet Ruth Peters was held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at Hastings Funeral Home in Perry, Iowa. Words of comfort were provided by Pastor Paul Burrow and Pastor Enna Antunez of the United Methodist Church in Perry. The casket bearers were Weston Marchant, Caleb Reimers, Josh Opheim, Ron Marchant, Doug Peters, and David Peters. Marjorie Vannatta provided the music and the Hymns were "In the Garden" and "How Great Thou Art". Burial was at the Rippey Cemetery and a time of lunch and fellowship was held at the United Methodist Church in Rippey. Janet Ruth Opheim, daughter of Irvin and Ione Lieuwen Opheim, was born December 7, 1941 in Fort Dodge, Iowa and died November 4, 2011 at the Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Iowa City, Iowa at the age of 69. Janet lived in Rutland for a time and she graduated from Humboldt High School in 1960. She got her medical assistant degree in Fort Dodge. Janet was a lab technician at the Humboldt Hospital. Later Janet was the assistant secretary to the Vice President of the ACT Testing program where she helped to develop the ACT Testing program. Janet married Jim Peterson and they had a daughter Liza. Together they made their home in Decorah, Clarion and then Humboldt. In 1991, Dan Peters and Janet were married and made their home on an acreage near West Branch. Janet rode and cared for their horses. Dan and Janet traveled extensively with their horses and wintered in Apache Junction for several years. All her life she loved animals. Janet was a member of the human society where she wrote the newsletter full of information which animals were available for adoption. Janet was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Dennis Opheim. Janet is survived by her husband Dan, daughter Liza and her husband Ron Marchant of Humboldt, and two grandchildren: Caitlin and husband Caleb Reimers of Ankeny; and Weston Marchant of Humboldt. Janet is also survived by a brother, Mike Opheim of Humboldt and a sister-in-law Pam Opheim of Ames. Hastings Funeral Home, PO box 204, Perry 515-465-4691
