Janice Comp-Butterfield, 89, of Peru died Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at West Bridge Care and Rehabilitation in Winterset. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, May 19, 2012 at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset. A visitation will be held prior to services from 10 to 11 a.m., Saturday morning. Burial will be in the Winterset Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family. Janice Eleanor Chickering was born July 26, 1922 in Villisca, Iowa; the daughter of Herbert and Jennie (Goltry) Chickering. Her marriage to George Comp took place on August 28, 1940. He preceded her in death on March 4, 1962. Her marriage to Glen Butterfield took place on October 20, 1966 at the First Baptist Church in Winterset. Janice was a homemaker and farmwife and also worked at the United Grocery in Winterset for several years. Later, she worked for Dahls Grocery in Des Moines as cashier, retiring after 20 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Winterset and was a former 4-H leader. She liked cooking, sewing and also enjoyed fishing. She is survived by her husband, Glen of Peru; two daughters, Norma Comp of Waukee and Linda Morrissey (Brian) of Otley; two step-children, Ruth Ann (Lon) Phillips of Blue Springs, MO and Gerry Butterfield of Winterset; siblings, Betty Messerschmidt of West Des Moines and James Pierce of Red Oak; four grandchildren, Lynn, Diane, Blaine, and Nathan; a step-granddaughter, Valorie; and six great-grandchildren, Joshua, Andre, Morgan, Tyler, Rachel, and Claire. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, George; a daughter, Sharon Vander Linden; and siblings, Dorothy Chickering, Harley Chickering, Harry Chickering, Wayne Chickering, Darlene Glascock, Ross Chickering, and Rose Luedeke.
