Janice Loe Daly

September 1, 1940 — February 6, 2025

De Soto

Janice Loe Jungmann Daly went home to heaven on February 6, 2025.

She was at home and surrounded by her loving husband of 62 years and their four daughters and families.

Jan was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on September 1, 1940, and grew up near Booneville. She was proud to be a Van Meter Bulldog and University of Iowa Hawkeye graduate; where she met the love of her life in the School of Dentistry while studying to be a dental hygienist. On May 25, 1963, they married and began their amazing life together.

Bill and Jan moved from West Des Moines to rural DeSoto in 1971 to raise their four daughters on the farm.

“Nanner” was the best at everything. Raising and nurturing four daughters, eight grandchildren and two great grands. She made countless sack lunches with homemade whole wheat bread - and stressed minimal white flour and sugar in our all of our diets. According to Jan, beets are always the best dessert option (with plenty of natural sugars). Jan created dance costumes, made sure the girls had piano lessons all while producing a bountiful garden every season and faithfully selecting and practicing the piano and organ selections for the weekly church services. She served on the Adel DeSoto School Board 12 years; and was a founding member of the Adel DeSoto Scholarship Foundation Board. Recently she served on the Dallas County Compensation Board. She perfected the gifts of unconditionally giving and loving.

When Bill and Jan had time to get away from the homestead, they enjoyed square dancing with the Cee-Do-Cee Club in Dallas Center and playing couples bridge with a lively Adel bunch. She was a lifelong Chicago Cubs and Hawkeye (especially football) fan. The couple enjoyed traveling - and most recently enjoyed their time in Florida where they spent every January.

She is predeceased by her parents, Elmer and Lyla Jungmann; her in-laws, W. D. and Evelyn Daly, brother Conrad Jungmann; grandson York McKinley. Those left on earth with the promise of seeing her again in heaven are: husband Bill, daughters Karla (Steve) Hocker, Kris (Tim) Boettger, Karin (Drew) Van Werden, Kendra Daly. Grandchildren include: Daly Hardy, Reese Hardy, Ike (Katie) Boettger, Adrienne Boettger, Charles Van Werden, Gabe Van Werden, Dane Van Werden. Great grandchildren include: Clay and Kiley Boettger. Siblings include: Jim Jungmann, Ron (Donna) Jungmann, Judy (Steve) Saltzman,Ginny (Russ) Olsan. She is additionally survived by special cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Gifts may be directed to Adel DeSoto Minburn Scholarship Fund.
