A service for Janiece was held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 21, 2012 at Hastings Funeral Home in Perry, Iowa. Words of comfort were provided by Rev. Ken Bose of Trinity Lutheran Church in Perry, Iowa. Janiece's casket bearers were: Paul Sloss, Ted Sloss, Jim McVey, Steven Stammer, Paul Blair, and Cal Linnenkamp. Music was provided by pianist Virginia White and soloist Dave Menz. The Hymns were: "Abide With Me", "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Blessings". Interment was at Valley View Cemetery in Perry, Iowa. Janiece Irene Sloss daughter of Hans Nicolaisen and Margaret Newbury, was born October 28, 1950 in Perry Iowa and died June 17, 2012 at her home in Perry, Iowa. She was 61. Janiece graduated from Perry High School. She continued her education at DMACC in Boone, Iowa and she became a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in 1985. Janiece married Thomas Sloss December 27, 1969. They had three children Dawn, Mike, and Jeffrey. She had lived in Perry all her life. Janiece worked at Spurgeon Manor, Dallas County Hospital, The Perry Lutheran Home, Broadlawns Hospital, and many clinics. Janiece was a wonderful person with a strong personality. She liked being a homemaker and enjoyed crafts like cross stitching. Janiece enjoyed planting and picking flowers. She also enjoyed watching Westerns especially John Wayne and collecting John Wayne plates. Most of all Janiece loved her family. She would take mini vacations to see her son Mike in Alabama and daughter in Minnesota. Janiece also loved to babysit her granddaughter Savannah. Janiece was preceded in death by her father Hans L. Nicolaisen (November 21, 1999), Son Jeffrey Sloss (August 22, 1998), sister Mickie and her husband Tom Kanealy; in-laws Max and Lucille Sloss. Janiece will be lovingly remembered by her mother Margaret "Peggy" Nicolaisen of Perry, IA; husband Thomas Sloss of Perry, IA; daughter Dawn Dunker (Larry) of Mankato, MN; son Mike Sloss (Tiffany) of Perry, IA; brother Larry (Linda) Nicolaisen of Virginia, two grandchildren Amani and Savannah Sloss; Uncle Harry Newbury of Perry, IA; many more aunts, uncles, brother-in-laws, and sister-in-laws, other relatives and many friends. www.hastingsfh.com
