A service for Jay David Cobb was held 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 21, 2012 at Hastings Funeral Home in Jefferson. Visitation was after 12:00 p.m. on Thursday with family present 4-6 p.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Julie Poulsen of the United Methodist Church in Jefferson provided words of comfort. Honorary bearers were Lily Johnson, Timmy Johnson, William David Johnson and Dennis Morlan. Organist was Delores Anderson and soloist Gary Haupert. Various Gospel Selections were played and Amazing Grace and In The Garden were the hymns. Following the service at the funeral home was a luncheon at the Pizza Ranch. Interment is set for a later date and will be in the Jefferson Cemetery. Jay David Cobb, son of William J. Cobb and Helen M. Schick Cobb, was born August 3, 1947 in Jefferson, Iowa and died December 18, 2012 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa. He was 65. Jay grew up in Jefferson and graduated from Jefferson High School in 1966. After high school he went to the University of Northern Iowa where he received his bachelor's degree. On May 24, 1970 Jay was united in marriage to Sue Campbell. The couple had two children John Robert and Jennifer Ann. He lived in South Bend, Indiana for 20 years. Jay managed a theatre from 1979-1989, before moving back to Jefferson. He worked at Greene County Medical Center in the plant operations engineering department in 1990. On September 26, 1992 Jay and Sandra Hardin were joined in marriage. Jay enjoyed singing, watching movies, put-put golf, playing cards especially cribbage, and loved swimming. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and visiting with his good friend & teacher Mabel Maloney. Jay always wanted to take his grandchildren to Walt Disney World and in May 2011 he did. On his birthday Jay would pass out roses to the community and throw money in the swimming pool for kids and lifeguards. He took care of his mother till she passed away this last year. He took an interest in geology, finding out his family roots. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Jefferson. Jay was a very punctual person, and determined to get the job done. He did everything with excellence. Jay worked at the hospital up until this year when he retired. Jay is preceded in death by his parents William "Bill" and Helen; brother Charles "Chuck" (1980); aunts; uncles; and in-laws Ralph and Elma Hardin. Jay is survived by his wife Sandra of Jefferson; son John Robert Cobb of Sylvania, Ohio; daughter Jennifer Ann Johnson of Shirley, Indiana; grandchildren: Lily, Timothy and William David Johnson all of Shirley, Indiana; brother John William Cobb and his wife Jo of Fort Collins, Colorado; nephew Julio Cobb; nieces Marie Tometich and Carime Stamm; other relatives and many friends.
