Jean Allene Pryor was born August 9, 1919 in Panora, Guthrie Co., Iowa. She was the daughter of Charles Pryor and Hazel Linna Morris Pryor. Jean completed her school years in Panora and graduated in 1937. Jean later moved to Dawson and was a resident there for many, many years. Jean enjoyed crocheting, mushroom hunting, and fishing. She was a tremendous gardener, with beautiful flowers. She always had a huge garden and shared with everybody. She worked at the Safeway, many longtime Perry residents might remember Jean behind the counter at the local bakery. She was a good baker and shared her goodies with neighbors and friends. She also shared her pies for the Ice Cream Socials held by the Dawson United Methodist Church Ladies. For over 30 years she cleaned at Weise. She cleaned houses for people up until the age of 95, when she could no longer drive herself. Thus the start of the beginning of the end for her. Jean Allene Pryor, 97, died on July 1, 2017 at her home in Dawson, Iowa. Funeral services for Jean were held on Friday July 7, 2017 at Hastings Funeral Home in Perry. Visitation was held an hour before the service with her family present. Officiating the service was Pastor Garold H. Hansen, Hope Parish United Methodist Church Dawson, Iowa. Casket Bearers were Andrew & Breanna Gonzalez, Clarence & Belinda Morman, Mary Hillman, and Scott Tomer. Recorded music, Amazing Grace and In the Garden was played for the service. Interment was in the Dallas Township Cemetery, Dawson, Iowa. A time of lunch and fellowship was held after the service at the Dawson Community Center. Lunch was provided by Belinda Morman and helped served by the Dawson United Methodist Church Ladies. Pies were provided by the Methodist Women. Jean is survived by nephews Charlie Borst, Jefferson, Iowa, Frank Cooley, Des Moines, Iowa and Phil Raner, Clear Lake, Iowa. Nieces Shannon Raner Moore, Wellington, Florida and Lodema Pryor, Guthrie Center, Iowa. She is also survived by many great nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Hazel Linna Morris Pryor. Sisters Mabel (Mrs. Homer Rote), Mary (Mrs. Kenneth Cooley), Jane (Mrs. Norman Raner, her twin), and brother, Mahlon Pryor, and her companion Glenn Godwin.
