Jean Carolyn Miller

Jean Carolyn Miller, age 82, of Urbandale, passed away Thursday, December 24, 2015 at Mercy Hospice. Jean was born on August 31, 1933 in Etowah, TN, to Carlon and Nina (Clayton) Tummins on August 31st, 1933. The family moved to St. Petersburg, FL in 1950. It was there that Jean met Fred Miller, who had just gotten out of the army. They were married on December 2, 1956, and moved to the Des Moines area in 1961. They lived on Maple Dr. in Urbandale for 40 years. Jean worked at the Urbandale high school from 1975 to 1982. After retirement, Fred and Jean spent 18 winters in the Phoenix area where they met many new friends. Jean was well known for her good southern cooking and also enjoyed baking, sewing, working puzzles and playing cards with friends and family. Jean was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include husband, Fred Miller of Urbandale; sisters, Barbara McLoughlin, of St. Petersburg, FL, Kathy (Ron) Cline, of Inverness FL, and Susan (Anthony) Olson, of Clearwater FL.; Sons, Greg (Lisa), of Omaha, NE., Ken (Yvonne), of Pewaukee, WI.; Daughters, Cindy (Alan) Lewis, of North Bend, WA., Vicki (Steve) Offfermann, of Urbandale; grandchildren, Brandon, Jonathon and Kelsey Miller, all of the Milwaukee, WI. area, Grant Miller of Omaha and Amber (Mathew) Klein, of Houston, TX. A private celebration of her life was held on Dec 26, 2015 by the family. She is greatly loved and will be missed by her friends and family.
