Jean E. (Gordon) Thompson, 76, of Winterset, Iowa, died Saturday, June 1, 2024, at her residence in Winterset surrounded by her family and her two little dogs, Izzi and Lacey.
She was born on December 21, 1947, at Mercy Hospital in Denver, Colorado to Zane and Esther (Schmidt) Gordon. On March 21, 1948 she was received into the Christian faith through holy baptism at Emmaus Evangelical Lutheran Church in Denver, Colorado and later confirmed on April 15, 1962 at Ascension Lutheran Church in Littleton, Colorado.
She attended Littleton public schools, graduating with the class of 1966 from Arapahoe High School in Littleton, Colorado. She was also a Little Britches Rodeo Queen.
She has been a resident of the city of Winterset since 1982. Throughout her career she worked for Gibbs Cook in Des Moines, the Ford dealership in Winterset, and retired from the Madison County Health and Zoning Office.
She enjoyed exploring her family’s genealogy with her brothers and sister, gardening, horses, rodeo, and loved her little fur babies, Izzi and Lacey. Her niece, Wendy, lived with and cared for her for approximately 16 years.
She is survived by her children, Mandi Aldrich Peters (Kyle) of Clive and Zane Thompson (Paula) of Grinnell; brothers, Dean (Judy) Gordon of Aurora, Colorado, Bruce Gordon of Littleton, Colorado, and Zane Arthur Gordon of Littleton, Colorado; and grandchildren, Taylor Honeck (Peyton), Tara Aldrich, Trista Thompson, and Trent Thompson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Zane and Esther (Schmidt) Gordon and her twin sister/best friend, Joan (Gordon) Welch.
In accordance with Jean's wishes, no visitation or service is scheduled. In lieu of memorial contributions, please perform an unexpected act of kindness for someone in need.
