Jeffrey Hope, 56, of Winterset, died Saturday, January 20, 2018, at HCI’s Kavanagh House on 56th Street in Des Moines. A visitation will be held from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 23, at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset, with his family present to receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 24, at the New Bridge Church in Winterset, with burial to follow in the Winterset Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to HCI’s Kavanagh House on 56th Street in Des Moines and online condolences may be left at ochiltree.com. Jeffrey Lawrence Hope was born in Winterset on September 19, 1961, to Lawrence Claude and Ava Sharon (Johnston) Hope. Jeff was raised in Winterset and graduated from Winterset High School in 1980. After high school Jeff attended Southwestern Community College in Creston receiving a diploma in Masonry. His marriage to Betty Jean Stout took place at the First Baptist Church in Winterset on June 10, 1983. During his working years, Jeff worked with Doc’s Soft Water for 13 years and went on to work at Moehl Millwork in Ankeny. His last employment was with Rose Acres Farms in Winterset where he worked for the past ten years. Throughout his working years Jeff also worked on various construction jobs as a trim carpenter and mason. Jeff attended the New Bridge Church and he loved the outdoors, whether he was fishing, hunting or trapping. He also enjoyed playing pool and he even participated in several pool leagues. He also enjoyed playing soft ball for many years and he enjoyed watching football, especially the Kansas City Chiefs. All this said, he enjoyed spending time with his family most of all. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Betty Hope, two children, Justin Hope and Heather Hope all of Winterset; a sister, Teresa Silverthorn of Redfield; a granddaughter, Talia Hope-Zwiebel; several nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends. Jeff was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, James and Agnes (Reynolds) Johnston and Ralph and Gwendolyn (DeLong) Hope.
