Jeffry Barnes, 72, of Winterset, formerly of Fort Dodge, passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2019 at the Veterans Memorial Hospital in Des Moines. Private graveside services at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery near Van Meter will be at a later date. Jeffry Robert Barnes, the son of Herbert and Mary Jane Barnes, was born on October 18, 1946 and grew up in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. After high school, he served two tours in the Vietnam War for the United States Army. Following his honorable discharge, he began his career in cable television working at Hawkeye Cablevision, Heritage Cablevision and later TCI Cablevision before retiring from the industry in 1996. Jeff was known for his love of his old muscle cars, motorcycles, his dog "Bear" and most importantly his children and grandchildren. He was an exquisite and fiercely loyal man who was always there for anyone who ever needed a helping hand. He had the most beautiful eyes, an infectious laugh, gave the best hugs and was an incredible dad. Jeff is survived by Shirley Barnes and their four children, Jason (Laura) Barnes of Winterset, Iowa, Jennifer (Mike) Sherman of Warrensburg, Missouri, Nate Barnes of Ottumwa, Iowa and Luke (Ashlee) Barnes of Burlington, Iowa; ten grandchildren, Katie, Kayla, JT, Ryleigh, Madison, Zack, Will, Lydia, Shea and Cole; great grandson, Gunner; and brothers, Doug and Richard Barnes. He was proceeded in death by his parents and brothers, Bill & Terry Barnes.
