Jerald "Jerry" Thompson, 72, of Derby, Iowa, died Friday, May 8, 2015 at his residence in rural Derby, Iowa. Memorial services with military honors will be held 11:00 AM Monday, May 18, 2015, at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa. Jerry was born on August 14, 1942, at Waukee, Iowa to Verle and Viola (Murphy) Thompson. After graduating from high school, he was inducted into the US Army and served during the Vietnam War. Jerry had lived around Derby for the past 30 years. He had worked for Oscar Mayer in Perry and Osceola Foods in Osceola during his lifetime and also enjoyed farming. Jerry was a person who enjoyed nature and the outdoors. Jerry is survived by his sisters, Dixie Thompson, Marilyn (Wendell) Spencer, and Shirley (Gary) Allen, all of Winterset. He was preceded in death by his parents, Verle and Vi (Murphy) Thompson; companion, Cecilia Chirinos; brothers, Kenneth Burden, Raymond Thompson, Merlin McCleary, and Richard Thompson; and sister, Marjorie Bernadine Camp. Memorials may be given to his family for a future designation. Service: 11:00 AM Monday May 18, 2015 Iowa Veterans Cemetery Van Meter, Iowa
