Jerrie Lorraine England, 98, of Winterset, passed away on November 10, 2024 at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset, Iowa.
Jerrie was born on March 7, 1926 to Jerry and Myrtle (Hess) Oglesbee in Madison County, Iowa. She graduated from Winterset High School, and was a lifetime resident of Madison County.
Jerrie married Willard “Bill” England on October 8, 1949 in Des Moines.
She was a file clerk for Look Magazine in Des Moines, and later was a head cook at Bentler’s Truckstop near DeSoto; she also worked at Dairy Queen in West Des Moines, Kum & Go in DeSoto and also in Bevington. She also taught ladies how to drive in Des Moines, and the lesson was, “when you’re on the ramp, just give it the gas.”
Jerrie is survived by her son, Jerry England of Winterset; daughters, Susan (Bob) Wailes of Lenexa, Kansas and Beverly (Dennis) Fisher of Marble Rock; grandchildren, Curt Rickets (Laresa) of Winterset, Sylvia Rickets of Des Moines, Eric (Hope) Ewing of Greene, Ryan (April) Ewing of Roland, Tiffani (Kevin) Davis of Olathe, Kansas, Aimee (Brian) James of Paola, Kansas; great grandchildren Rebecca, Casey, Alyssa (Taylor), Tori (Cody), Taylor, and Colton; great-great grandchildren, Kennedy, Monroe, Waylon, Lucas on the way, Jameson, and Parker Rose. She is also survived by her brother, Gerald (Delores) Oglesbee of Arizona; sister-in-law Shirley Oglesbee of Colorado; son-in-law, Mark Rickets of Winterset; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard “Bill” England; son, Henry Paul England; daughter, Linda Rickets; grandson, Christopher Rickets; granddaughter Melissa Rickets; brothers, Morris Oglesbee and Harry Oglesbee, Jr.; and sister, Thelma Gray.
