Jerry Allen Hornsby, son of Harold Lee Hornsby and Florence Irene Johnson Hornsby was born May 10, 1944 in at home in Van Meter, Iowa, and died November 13, 2017 at Unity Point Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 73. Jerry's family lived in Bouton before moving to Perry where he attended Webster Elementary School and Junior High. He later obtained his GED. Jerry was united in marriage with Jannette Kay Sieck on April 27, 1962. They were parents of four children, Gerald Allen, Charmalee, Christine, and Joe. The couple lived in Bouton for a time before moving to Perry in 1964. Jerry was a private man who loved his family and home. He was a hard worker, a talented welder and all around handy man. He received his trucking certificate from Indian Hills College and trucked for others. Jerry enjoyed spending time in his garage, working on his many projects including trailers and snappers. He worked with his brother Roger Hornsby at his Auction House for many years. As a couple, Jerry and Jannette contract detasseling for over 30years as well as walking beans. They took on huge cleaning and moving projects for others. Jerry cut and sold firewood. Jerry was a collector of sorts, fishing poles being a favorite. He was a fisherman and loved camping. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Roger and his wife Norma; Larry and his wife Julie, and his sisters Mary Lou Shiery and Shirley Mies and her husband Tom. Jerry is survived by and will be deeply missed by his wife Jannette, children Gerald Lee Hornsby, Charmalee White and her husband Russell of Perry, Christine Moran, and Joe Olvera and friend Juana Cisneros all of Perry; grandchildren, Katarina Goodrich and her husband Clayton of Glidden, Larissa and Connor Hornsby of Jefferson, Kayla White of Las Vegas, Nevada, Travis White of San Diego, California, and Tyler White and fiance Jenna Paul of Des Moines and great granddaughter Brenna White. Jerry is survived by nieces and nephews, Rhonda Kilts (Tim), Rusty Hornsby (Jennifer), Becky Simmer (Dave), Ricky Hornsby (Jeanie), Bonnie Mies, Tommie Lilly (Perry), Wanda Hornsby and Wendell Hornsby (Jenny), many great-nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Memorials in his name may be sent to Hastings Funeral Home, Perry.
