Jerry D. Jackson died unexpectedly at his daughter’s home near Peru, Iowa on Tuesday, June 19, 2018. He was 77. A visitation will be held from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 26, at Ochiltree Funeral Service where his family will be present to receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 27, at the New Bridge Church in Winterset with military honors by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8142 and American Legion Post 184 both of Winterset. Memorials may be directed to his family and on-line condolences may be left at ochiltree.com. Jerry Dean Jackson was born in Madison County, Iowa on December 14, 1940, to Ralph and Ila (Hendrickson) Jackson. He graduated from Lorimor High School in 1959. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1963 to 1965. Following his military service, he married Mary Frances Harris at the United Methodist Church in Winterset on July 8, 1966. To this union two children, Brian and Krystal, were born. Jerry was a farmer all of his life and he worked for the Madison County Road Department operating a road maintainer for several years. He also worked for Tony Hendrickson operating heavy construction equipment as well as working five years for McAninch in Des Moines. He was a member of the Madison County Cattlemen’s and worked with the Madison County Pork Producers on many events. He was also a member of Operating Engineers Local 234. He was a proud member of the NRA and in his free time, enjoyed hunting and being outdoors especially when he could be in the mountains. He also enjoyed playing solitaire on his computer. All this said he loved nothing more than the time he could spend with his family, especially his grandsons. He is survived by his son, Brian Jackson, daughter, Krystal (Jimmy) Jackson Price both of Peru; brother, Billy (Lucy) Jackson of Greenfield; two grandsons, Jackson and Jarrett Price; extended family and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Travis Jackson.
