Jerry Jay Roberts

Jerry Roberts, 78, of Adel, beloved husband and best friend to Donna Roberts for 53 years, passed away peacefully surrounded by the ones he laughed with, lived for and loved, on January 25, 2018. Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at the First Christian Church in Adel. Inurnment will follow at the Oakdale Cemetery in Adel. A visitation will be held Monday, January 29, 2018 at McCalley Funeral Home in Adel. Family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Jerry Jay Roberts was born February 26, 1939 to Ray and Arol Roberts (Hutzell) in Perry, IA. Jerry graduated from Perry High School in 1958 and then attended the University of Iowa. He served in the National Guard for 8 years. On September 13, 1964 Jerry married Donna Burke. Together this union brought three children Brett, Stacey and Addie. Jerry and Donna operated and then owned a retail store in Adel until he began working for the City of Adel as a city clerk for many years. He retired in 2004 from the Waukee school district as a building and grounds supervisor. He enjoyed golf, was an avid Hawkeyes fan and loved to root for his favorite baseball team, the Chicago Cubs. Jerry loved spending time with his friends and his beloved family. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Donna; children Brett, Stacey and her sons Jason and Aaron, Addie and her son Adam; brother Richard (Jackie) Roberts and sister Kyla (Lonnie) Barber; sisters-in-law Mary Lou Roberts, Eudell (Ken) Garrett, and Sharon (Dallas) Poppen, along with numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Ray and Arol and brothers Dennis, Ray and Bill. Memorial contributions may be directed to the First Christian Church or the Adel Lions Club.
