Jerry L. Bettes - Adel

Jerry L. Bettes, 81, of Adel, Iowa, died Saturday, May 17, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, May 22, 2014, at McCalley Funeral Home in Adel with Pastor Dean Hall officiating. Burial will be in the Oakdale Cemetery at Adel. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2 to 7 PM with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 PM at McCalley Funeral Home. Jerry was born on August 1, 1932, at Pawnee, Oklahoma to Lee and Dorothy (Kern) Bettes. On May 28, 1965, Jerry married Alice Ballard at Enid, Oklahoma. Jerry had been a resident of Adel for the past 40 plus years. He was a retired accountant for Gan (formerly Hawkeye) Insurance Company in Des Moines. Jerry had served in the US Navy during the Korea Conflict. Jerry is survived by his wife, Alice; children, David and Jill, William and Robbin, Gordon and Lee, Alan and Anna, and Greg and Sheri; brother, Ted; sisters, Norma, Leslie, and Robin; grandchildren, Jenny, Nathan, Taylor, Jim, John, Joe, Kendra, Jerica, Arvid, Karissa, Courtney, and Austin; and great grandchildren, Ethan, Emma, Bowie, Nevara, Brianna, Georgia, Lila, Afton, Evlyn, and Carson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Dorothy (Kern) Bettes; and son, Kenneth J. Bettes. Memorials may be directed to his family for a future designation.
