Jerry McFarland, 67, of Winterset, died Friday, June 23, 2017, at the Madison County Hospital in Winterset. A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, June 30, at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset, with family present to receive friends during this time. A funeral service will begin 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 1, at Ochiltree’s with burial immediately following in the Winterset Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family and online condolences can be left for the family at ochiltree.com. Jerry McFarland, son of Jack Wayne and Niada Mae (Honn) McFarland, was born September 19, 1949 in Leon. He graduated from Winterset High School in 1969 and was married to Debra Sue Brower on November 8, 1969. He attended the Bulova School of Watch-Making in Queens, New York. Jerry worked as a heavy equipment operator with Elder Corp for 17 years and had also worked with Des Moines Asphalt. He was a member of Union Local #234 (retired). Jerry loved music and was a talented drummer. He also loved woodworking, flower gardening and had a special affection for quarters often responding to his kids and family with the quote, “It’ll cost you a quarter”. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed any time he could spend with his family and especially his grandchildren and fur babies. Jerry is survived by his wife of 48 years, Debra McFarland of Winterset, his five children, Jesse (Carol) McFarland of Winterset, Micha (Don) McCaulley of Creston, Heidi (Greg) Dorrell of Winterset, Cassidy (Ashley) McFarland of Henderson, CO, Tanner (Natalie) McFarland of Des Moines and 10 grandchildren, Jacob, Caleb, Hannah, Jaycey, Frank, Jack, Devin, Emma, Jace and Landyn. He is also survived by siblings, Pamela (David) Sato of Lake Elsinore, CA, Rene Klingaman of Winterset, Ricky (Cindy) McFarland of Winterset, Rebecca McFarland of Norwalk and Rodney (Jennifer) McFarland of Winterset, brother-in-law, Terry Brower of Winterset, many nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Michael McFarland.
