Jerry Sherlock

Gerald "Jerry" Joseph Sherlock, son of Julius Henry Sherlock and Anna Nilles, was born on February 16, 1935 in LeMars, Iowa and died December 21, 2008 in Jefferson, Iowa at the Greene County Medical Center at the age of 73 years, 10 months, and 5 days. Jerry graduated from Remsen High School in1952. He was the seventh of fourteen children. On August 8, 1959, Jerry married Judy Brown in LeMars, Iowa where they lived for two years before moving to Jefferson in 1961. Jerry and Judy were parents to three children: Beth, Kevin, and Sue. Jerry worked for Shriver Construction from 1953 until 1963, and then he was employed by Quad States Construction Co. in 1963 until 1985. He worked for Jimmy Eason from 1985 to 1986, and then worked for Hoffman Inc. from 1986 until he retired in 1997. He made slip concrete silos. Jerry enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, duck and pheasant hunting and tinkering in LeRoy's garage. In his later years, he enjoyed making candles and wine, baking and gardening, canning, and making birdhouses and birdfeeders. He also enjoyed spending time with his family. Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Judy on May 18, 2000, and his brother Pat. He is survived by his son Kevin (Tammy Hale) of Scranton; daughters Beth De Moss and Sue Sherlock (Kenny Hostetler) all of Jefferson; 3 grandchildren: Karli and Derek De Moss and Jordan Hostetler all of Jefferson; 1 great-grandchild Zelda De Moss; 4 brothers: Alfred "Sonny" of LeMars; Ray (Zelda) of Merrill; Cyril "Cy" (Phyllis) of CA; LeRoy (Claudette) of Jefferson; 8 sisters: Helen Rolling (Mark); Rosie Kurth (Paul); Doris Rolfes; Loretta "Tiny" Hoss; Mary Fulton (Bob) ;Esther Shrader (Tom) and Norine Harvey (Keith) all of LeMars; and Julie McElhany (Jim;) of Sioux City; 7 brothers-in-law: Denny Brown of Medford, Oregon; Gary Brown (Nina) of Killeen, Texas; Glenn Brown (Diana) of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Charlie Brown (Nancy) of Cleghorn, Iowa; Randy Brown (Jane); Steve Brown; Brian Brown (Mary) all of Magnolia, Texas; 3 sisters-in-law: Dianne Borchers (Doug) of Rock Valley, Iowa; Mary Eblen (Jim) of Rushville, Illinois; and Deb Quinn (Rick) of Mt. Sterling, Illinois; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
