Jerry was born March 16, 1941 in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of George Sr. and Ethelyn (Lattig) Spencer. He graduated from Winterset High School in 1959. He was later drafted and served in the United States Army. His first marriage was to Evelyn Rogers and he later married Linda Cresap on June 2, 1978 at the First Baptist Church in Winterset. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Joyce Givan and a son, Kenny Ridout. Jerry was employed by John Deere in Ankeny for 35½ years and retired in 2000. He was a member of the UAW Local #454 of Des Moines. Jerry loved woodworking, travel, playing pool and cards. He was also a great mechanic, avid reader but most of all he was a loving, soft spoken kind-hearted man who was always willing to lend a helping hand. Jerry is survived by his wife, Linda Spencer of Winterset, 4 children, Jeri (Tim Rietz) Steffens of Johnston; Craig Ridout of Spring Hill, KS; Kris (Kevin) Nielsen of Lacona; Kevin (Betty) Ridout of Des Moines; 4 brothers, Harold Spencer of Red Oak; Bill Spencer of Lorimor; Gary (Donna) Spencer of Macksburg; George (Wanita) Spencer of Lorimor; three sisters, Cathy Trump of Lake of the Ozarks; Delores (Tom) Losee of Winterset; Marlene (Joe) Saxton of Winterset; and 6 grandchildren, Jacob, Nicholas, Nathan, Camille, Kent and Alyssa. Visitation: Winterset Cemetery, Winterset; where military honors will be preformed by the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 8142 & American Legion Post 184 both of Winterset. Service: Memorial contributions may be directed to the Hospice of Central Iowa's Kavanagh House on 56th Street. Memorial: 1:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday where family will be present to receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. April 25, 2006 at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset.
