Jimmie Lee Majerus, 74, of Des Moines, Iowa passed away on Thursday Oct 27, 2022 surrounded by his family at the VA Hospital in Des Moines.
Jimmie was born on June 17, 1948 in Atlantic, Iowa and the world hasn’t been same ever since. He grew up in Menlo, Iowa before moving to Sioux City, Iowa and finally Des Moines. Upon graduating from Saydel High School in 1968 he immediately joined the US Navy based out of San Diego, CA and was shipped off to Vietnam until 1972. While in the Navy he was attached to the USS Sphinx, USS Taussig, USS Agerholm as well as the USS Okinawa. From there his job in Vietnam was on the river patrol boat where they were known as the “Brown Water Navy”. After leaving the Navy he stayed in California and joined up with his brother Bob in Long Beach where they had many adventures and endless stories……many that have been repeated over the years.
In spring of 1973, he came back to Iowa for his grandfathers funeral but the universe had other plans and that is when he met Barb Plagman and they started dating. He returned to California but that didn’t last long, 2 weeks later he returned and proposed. They were wed on Sept 30, 1973 and remained married for 49 years. On May 7, 1975 they welcomed their first son Shawn Allen into the world and finally on Sept 12, 1976 they welcomed their second son Shane Matthew.
Over the years Jim enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brothers but his biggest passion was his beloved 1966 Mustang Fastback 2+2 that he restored and proudly displayed any chance he got. After dominating the car shows for many years earning dozens of 1st place trophies and even a “Best of Show”, he quit doing the shows and decided to just enjoy it himself for the remaining years.
He is preceded in death by his parents Henry and Lucille Majerus, brother Gerald, sister Lolabelle and another brother Donnie.
He is survived by his wife Barb of Des Moines, sons Shawn (Liz) of Las Vegas and Shane of Des Moines, fur kid Shelby, Brothers Bob (Donna) of Wisconsin, Lonnie (Barbara) of Altoona, sisters Patty of Atlantic, Deborah (Bob) of Hartford, grandchildren Matthew, Alex, Emily and Chace, two great grandsons Kaden and Kohen, Aunts, Uncles, Nieces nephews, great nieces and nephews and countless cousins as well as many friends and acquaintances that he talked their ear off and will miss him dearly.
